From the Principal

Welcome to the second term of the year. I know the recent holidays would have been different to the usual break from school, due to the restrictions we have in place as a result of the coronavirus. Nonetheless, I hope the time allowed for relaxation, reflection and appreciation for the ‘things’ that matter most in our lives – family, food on the table and good health.

From the Deputy Principal/APRIM

Your health and wellbeing is just as important to look after as your child’s. All of our parents at St Joseph's are doing a fantastic job, with many of you juggling Remote Learning and working from home yourself. Some days are going to be harder than others, remember to be kind to yourselves! It does not matter if on some days not all learning tasks are completed, it is ok to put the laptop away and go outside for a walk.

From the Chairperson of School Board

To our school community,

Welcome back to a very different school environment in Term 2.

Term 1 certainly provided our school with several challenges. The transportable was installed, the power transformer outage created havoc on our electrical systems and onset of COVID-19 changed the way we live, work and learn.

To ensure the safety of all children and staff, sporting events, excursions, camps, celebrations and group interactions were suspended or postponed.

Social distancing and working in isolation became the norm. Our school adapted quickly to the changes. Whether students were in the class or online, our teachers had to find creative ways to keep students engaged and connected in their learning. The teachers have done an amazing job in maintaining a consistent level of learning for all children.

In these uncertain times, some parents and caregivers might be anxious about sending their children back to school, this is understandable. Ingrid and Marie, together with teachers and support staff, in line with recommendations from CESA and SA Health have done everything possible in providing the safest environment for our children.

Promising figures from SA Health have indicated South Australia is doing well in flattening the curve. Let’s pray that we have contained the spread and that we can slowly reduce the restrictions and return to some normality.

On a brighter note, Term 2 marks the official start for Simon Mechis as our school principal. On behalf of the School Board and wider school community, it is with great pleasure and excitement that we wish him a warm welcome.

We thank Ingrid and Marie for their dedication and hard work in Simon’s absence. They dealt with many challenges, while ensuring the safety of our children and kept the school community up to date with ever changing environment.

Stay safe and we look forward to moving through this together.

Mark Annese
Chairperson

SA Dental pic.png

School Dental Service

Children with poor oral health are more likely to experience pain, to miss days from school and to perform poorly in the classroom.  Untreated tooth decay can lead to problems with speaking, eating and learning.

SA Dental Service sees over 80,000 children for dental care each year, but data shows that 57.5% of eligible children in SA are not using the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule.

There are no out of pocket costs for children covered by the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule
