Eastern Star.jpg

Eastern Star Project

As part of the Eastern Star Project, one of our main goals is to further improve our teaching practice and one important element of this is Assessment and Moderation. To assist with this, our staff is currently engaging in a Certified Educational Assessor (CEA) course which is designed to support a whole school commitment in reflecting, evaluating and improving existing assessment practices which in turn will improve student outcomes.

The CEA consists of five modules including: Principles of Assessment, Purpose and Design, Judgement, Data/Providing Effective Feedback, and Moderation.  On our return to Term Three we had a staff day where we engaged with the first module with our facilitator Rozi from SACE (South Australian Certificate of Education), along with some staff members from St. Francis of Assisi.  The Principle of Assessment module helped to develop our capacity to convey knowledge and understanding of assessment as an essential part of teaching and learning.  We were provided with strategies for using student centred language to help support student learning, as well as evaluating and analysing the reliability and validity of assessment tasks. We are looking forward to our next day which will be held on the first day of Term 4. I will continue to share this learning journey with you.
