Eastern Star Project

We have had some really exciting Mathematics parent workshops here at St Joseph’s Payneham as part of the Eastern Star Project. Our second session was based around helping your child become a powerful mathematician. This session gave great explanation and suggestions on how to equip our students to become powerful choosers and users of Mathematics. It was fantastic for parents/carers to have exposure to what we are learning in our classrooms and be able to use the same language. Lisa Jane O’Connor also gave some easy tips on how to use the five drawers of Mathematics (Number, Geometry, Algebra, Measurement, Data) at home with your child. Keep an eye out for some of these articles which will be included in our Newsletter over the year. See the images below for some tips when your child is reading and writing numerals.

In case you missed the first session, St. Francis of Assisi are hosting the session again: ‘Supporting your child to become fluent with their facts’ (focus Year 2/3/4s)

The staff have also been engaging in a range of professional learning including the fourth module of the Assessment and Moderation course. In this particular module our educators were able to engage in the opportunity to extend their ability to analyse and interpret data to identify trends in areas of curriculum and assessment practice to promote student learning. It also further enhanced their skills in providing feedback which promotes further learning for individual students. As always, our amazing staff are keen to further improve their practice and are committed to being lifelong learners to ensure the best possible outcomes for your children.
