Sacrament of Confirmation and First Eucharist 2021
Next Tuesday evening Parents, Sponsors and children will attend a meeting for the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. We have 31 children who are preparing for these Sacraments. We wish these children and their families all the very best as they journey towards this significant time in their spiritual and faith development.
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated on Friday 21st May. First Eucharist on Saturday 22nd May and 29th May all at Our Lady Queen of Peach Church. Archbishop Patrick O’Regan will be our celebrant at this year’s Confirmation Ceremony.
Let us all pray for the children and their families as they celebrate and share in this joyous day.

Project Compassion
Last term the children raised $701.00 during Lent.
These donations are used to help the world’s poor in order to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity. Well done to everyone who support the children and the school during Project Compassion.
Growth Mindset
SJP is passionate about developing students who are resilient, have a love of learning and are unafraid to act in order to accomplish goals.
We continue our journey at St Joseph's in learning about growth mindset and applying its principles to the daily lives of our students. Moreover, we look forward each year to achieving great things in partnership with our parents as we work together, speaking the same language, to promote a growth mindset in all our students.
Modelling a growth mindset means being willing to try hard even when failure is likely because that’s how growth happens. Parents should try to get excited when their children make mistakes because these mistakes can reveal important gaps that should be filled. When adults get excited about the learning that mistakes can facilitate, children start to think of mistakes as a natural part of the learning process. This leads to a few important changes in children’s learning behaviour:
- Children stop avoiding challenging work just because it could mean making more mistakes.
- Children become less likely to try to “sweep mistakes under the rug” because they stop thinking of them as something to be ashamed of.
Some ideas parents can do at home:
- Make mistakes in front of your children, have a positive reaction to those mistakes, and openly reflect on what could be learned from the mistake. Try to show that it’s all about learning, not about being right.
- At the dinner table, talk about a time that you struggled with something and how hard it is and how you overcame it. Then ask your children if there’s anything they struggled with, how they overcome it, and what they learned from the experience.
- Get excited when your child makes a mistake and help them think through what could be learned from it. Even mistakes that seem careless can be good learning opportunities. For example, if your child forgot to study enough for an important test, it might be an opportunity to learn about prioritization and to-do-lists.

STEM- Coding and Robotics
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. In the school setting, STEM is an interdisciplinary approach to learning. When these areas are taught in an integrated way, students are better able to appreciate how each part is necessary for the success of any complex, real world project.
The idea behind STEM is to prepare students for successful careers in the 21st century workforce. We live in a time of knowledge and information explosion. Our children will be working in jobs that don’t even exist today. One thing which is certain about careers of the future is that they will involve constant change. STEAM education seeks to teach students to be creative, innovative, critical thinkers; all skills needed for adapting to change. If students develop skills needed to think deeply and critically, they will be prepared to become the innovators and leaders of our future.
We are very proud of our coding and robotics programs at SJP. We are able provide students and teachers with access to a range of coding and robotics resources that engage students in future-focused learning.
Our Robotics Program also allows students to work cooperatively with their peers, problem-solve, innovate, create and investigate with technologies.
Some of Our Robots
Bee-bot
Bee-bot robots are great for students starting their journey into the world of coding and robotics.
Pro-bots
The Probot is a robot with a wider range of coding for students P - 2.
Sphero
Our first Sphero was purchased in 2015. We were so impressed at the versatility and range of applications in an education setting that we expanded our collection. The students look forward to using our new set of Sphero and applying their coding skills.
Mindstorms EV3
Students learn to construct, test and explore the EV3 robot in depth.
This term all students R-6 will be taking part in a Robotics program.
Reception - Bee bots / Pro-bots
Year 1 and 2 - Sphero SPRK
Year 3 and 4 - Sphero SPRK
Year 5 and 6 - Lego Mindstorms EV3
These lessons will introduce digital literacy skills such as coding and the lessons will include STEM and problem based learning skills.
Whole School Assemblies
Every third Thursday we look forward to gathering together as a school for Assemblies. At these Assemblies we celebrate the achievements of children across all year levels.
Parents/Caregivers, grandparents and friends are always very welcome at our Assemblies. Please see the below timetable highlighting the upcoming assemblies for Term Two.
