Child Protection Curriculum
This term our students will engage in learning around the Child Protection Curriculum. Every child has the right to be safe and free from all kinds of abuse, including bullying and harassment, and neglect. The Keeping Safe Child Protection Curriculum provides the framework to teach children and young people from age 3 to Year 12, in an age appropriate way, to recognise abuse, talk to trusted adults and understand ways to keep themselves safe. The Keeping Safe Child Protection Curriculum is mandated in all Catholic schools in South Australia. Our teachers undertake professional learning to implement this important area of curriculum.

The following link provides more information on how the curriculum is implemented in schools in a video.

Themes For the Child Protection Curriculum

The curriculum follows 2 main themes:

  • we all have the right to be safe
  • we can help ourselves to be safe by talking to people we trust.

Focus areas

The 2 themes are explored through 4 focus areas:

  • the right to be safe
  • relationships
  • recognising and reporting abuse
  • protective strategies.

The focus areas are targeted to the age of the learners.

Year 1 Phonics Screening Check
The Phonics Screening Check is a simple and valuable assessment tool to monitor students’ progress when it comes to phonics and reading. Our Year 1 students will participate in this 5-7 minute test this term in Week 5.. The Year 1 teachers will administer the individual test, which will provide them with valuable information about each student’s phonological skills and reading abilities.
